Clifford E. Batteau

Clifford E. Doc Batteau, Jr., 67, of Sand Diego, CA, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2000 at 10:55 a.m. in Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA.
He was born April 21, 1932 at DeSoto, the son of Clifford E. and Helen Margaret (Carter) Batteau Sr.  He married Gloria Fay Kemper and she survives.
Doc Batteau was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal, Eight good conduct awards, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nations Ribbon, Korean Service Medal and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.  He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Human Resource Management Specialist after serving 36 years.  He was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Fay Batteau of San Diego, CA; stepmother, Pauline Batteau of Murphysboro; sons, Keith Wayne Batteau, Kerry Lee Batteau, Robert Eugene Batteau and Steven Grant Batteau, all of San Diego, CA; brothers, Billy Batteau of Vergennes, Donald Ray Batteau of Corpus Christi, TX and Johnnie Batteau of DuQuoin; sisters, Mary Ellen Willoughby of Wichita, KS, Sharlet Piper of DeSoto and Georgia D. Aldridge of Schaumburg and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jackie Lynn Batteau.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro with Rev. Mark Irwin and Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating.  Interment was in Central Cemetery in Elkville.
Military Graveside services were conducted by American Legion Post 127 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190, both in Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 in Carbondale and Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69 and the U.S. Navy.
Visitation was at Crawshaw Funeral Home on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Pop Warner Scholarship Fund in care of the Batteau Family.
